Casper's Cove is a 501(c) non-profit horseback riding program for economically disadvantaged
children. Casper's Cove was founded by Angela Cairnes. We allow children to come to Casper's Cove
for 6 consecutive weeks and learn riding and life skills totally free of charge. The children are
recommended by school guidance counselors and private counseling agencies. Most of the children
have been though a life trauma such as divorce, death of a parent. These are all children who are
economically disadvantaged and wouldn't otherwise be able to ride the horses.
Our Mission is to promote healing, teach skills and build confidence.
Horseback riding is a recreational and therapeutic activity enjoyed by individuals of all ages and
abilities. It provides the rider with the opportunity to master the skills necessary to control a
1,200 pound animal and thus confidence to control other aspects of their lives. Many riders
experience a connection to the horse that few sports can create. Horse and rider develop a bond
that can help fill a void or lack of affection in their lives. Horseback riding provides both
physical and emotional benefits such as improved balance, muscle strength, coordination, improved
self confidence, patience, emotional control, self discipline, and development of respect and care
for animals. Horseback riding nurtures a positive self image. Riders may for the first time in
their lives, experience independence and a sense of being part of a team.
With generous support of people like you, we will continue to be successful in bringing this
program to children who need it. Volunteers and donations are needed. One session of Casper's Cove
lasts 6 weeks and serves 12 children. Casper' Cove is now meeting on Tuesdays between 2:30 and 6:00
PM. To see if your child is eligible or to give a donation, call 828-691-7355. All donations are
tax deductible.
